What is it?

  • EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach designed for working with distressing or traumatic memories.

  • It has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma.

  • It is used to reduce the charge of the negative memory and allow the brain to process the event more adaptively.

What is it used to treat?

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Phobias

  • Disturbing Memories

  • Performance Anxiety

  • Stress Reduction

What happens in the session?

  • The therapist guides the client in concentrating on a troubling memory or emotion while moving the eyes rapidly back and forth (by following the therapist's fingers, or paying attention to sounds or pulsing sensations which occur in sequence from left to right).

  • This side-to-side motion is called bilateral stimulation.

  • Research results demonstrate that it enhances memory and speeds up the healing process.
