Trauma Recovery

Psychological trauma results from extraordinarily distressing or life-threatening event(s). It results from relational or non-relational events. Relational traumas involve the exploitative harm done to one person by another with whom they have an attachment bond. This can occur from a single-event or multiple exposures to emotional, verbal, physical, or sexual abuse. Common symptoms include:

  • distressing memories, nightmares, or flashbacks of the incident(s)

  • avoidance of these memories, nightmares, or flashbacks

  • depressed mood or increase in anxiety

  • increased reactivity

Together in therapy, we will work to help you truly thrive in the present without being overwhelmed by the thoughts and feelings of the past.
